Songs For Feeling Like a Confident & Badass Woman
Music is powerful, and can make us feel a number of ways. Whether we’re mourning, celebrating, waiting, dancing, or simply passing time, we’ve all turned to music at one point to reflect the way we’re feeling. I’ve compiled a list of 12 songs for feeling like a confident and badass woman. I hope that somewhere in this list, you’ll find a song that reflects how you’re feeling, or maybe a song to help you feel more confident and badass than you were before.
1. “Confident” by Demi Lovato
This song is perfect to put on when you’re already feeling yourself. It’s perfect for when you’re getting dolled up and feeling great. What’s wrong with being confident? Nothing! The lyrics are all about not caring what others think of you and celebrating yourself regardless of the opinions of others! We all have our moments when we get down on ourselves, but we also need to celebrate the times when we’re feeling our best, and that’s what this song is for. Turn up the volume and feel your best!
2. “Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld
“Most Girls” is Hailee Steinfeld’s anthem to celebrate all women and girls, no matter how they choose to live. The concept of this song is based on the idea that being like most girls is considered a bad thing, which is an idea that many men have toward women. It’s thought that “not being like other girls” makes one woman better than another, when that simply isn’t true. “Most Girls” shows that all women are special and wonderful, no matter what. Blast this song when you want to let everyone know that all women are special and amazing, or when you want to celebrate being a woman!
3. “Woman” by Kesha
“Woman” by Kesha is a song that proclaims how powerful a woman can be! The lyrics of this tune are all about how amazing a woman can be, and how much she can accomplish on her own. Woman was released as part of Kesha’s album, Rainbow, which was released in 2017. This album was Kesha’s first release after the news of her legal battle with the head of her record label came to light. “Woman” was Kesha’s proclamation to the world that she would no longer let herself be controlled by a man and that she was taking charge of her own life from that moment on. Listening to this song would make any woman want to dance confidently and celebrate her independence.
4. “Alaska” by Maggie Rogers
Maggie Rogers’ song Alaska is all about finding confidence in yourself after spending all of your time creating an existence with another person. Whether it be a breakup, or a split between friends, or family members, sometimes it takes time to rediscover who you are on your own after spending so much time on another person. Alaska is about taking the time to change and let go of another person, especially if that person was weighing you down. If you’re going through some big relationship changes right now, or if you have in the past, take a few minutes to rock out with Maggie Rogers.
5. “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” by Shania Twain
Shania Twain’s classic country-pop hit, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!”, is the ultimate celebration of womanhood. Shania Twain celebrates feeling like a woman and taking the chance to go crazy with your best gals once in a while. Sometimes womanhood can be a struggle, but Shania takes a few minutes of our day to turn being a lady into one big party! This song is perfect for a drive with the windows down, or to boogie confidently to on the dance floor.
6. “Like A Girl” by Lizzo
This song is the perfect song for when you feel like you can do anything. Lizzo puts a twist on the old phrase “like a girl” and turns it into something positive. Rather than using the phrase to indicate something is being done poorly, Lizzo uses it to say something is being done amazingly and with strength. “Like A Girl” is for any woman who feels that she can do anything a man can do, just as well, if not better. A woman can run the world and do it like a girl! Women are amazing and can do anything they set their mind do. “Like A Girl” is a proclamation of that sentiment! Play this jam when you need to feel powerful and like you can accomplish anything.
7. “successful” by Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande brings us this great tune for everyone so we can celebrate our success. “successful” has the added bonus of having a super funky beat that you can dance to whenever you’re celebrating your accomplishments. This song is perfect for all the successful ladies out there looking for a bop to express how good it feels to be successful. It’s also for those of us who are on our way to leading successful lives. We all deserve a funky dance break!
8. “The Man” by Taylor Swift
On the surface, this T. Swift song may seem like any old pop song, but “The Man” is much more than that. When you delve a little deeper, “The Man” is all about the double standards that exist between men and women, especially in the pop music industry. The lyrics include the insightful line, “I’m so sick of running as fast as I can / wondering if I’d get there quicker if I was a man…” to show how frustrating it can be for women to do everything in their power to succeed, but still be left behind just because they’re women. Taylor Swift says that if she were a man doing what she does, then she’d be the man. This song is perfect for when you need to dance away your frustrations at the sexist world we live in.
9. “Fergalicious” by Fergie
Here’s another confident song for when you’re simply feeling yourself. “Fergalicious” is the song for any woman who’s feeling like the sexiest woman to walk the earth. Sometimes you have a day when your confidence is off the charts, and those are the perfect days to blast “Fergalicious”. You’re dressed to the nines, you’re in control, you’re having a good time, you’re feeling great, you’re absolutely “Fergalicious.”
10. “Party Tattoos” by dodie
“Party Tattoos” is a little bit of an outlier on this list, because it isn’t the most badass or the most confident, but I thought it deserved a spot on this list because of how uniquely comforting it is. Dodie wrote this song after a friend of hers woke up after a night of partying, bruised and a bit beaten up, but otherwise okay. She dubbed her bruises to be “party tattoos” and just a sign of a good night. After hearing this, dodie thought about how this concept could apply to life as well. We all go through things that leave us a little worse for wear, but in the end, we come out a little more colourful than before. This song is wonderful to listen to when your soul is feeling a little bruised, but you just need a reminder that this is all a part of the journey of life. In the end, you’ll be someone who’s got a few more colours on your palette.
11. “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga made history with her hit, “Born This Way”. This song is an anthem for all those who exist outside of what is considered ordinary. “Born This Way” celebrates everyone’s unique beauty. Play this song when you’re feeling perfectly confident in your unique self! No matter what your background, or how you were born, you are beautiful in your own way.
12. “Love Myself” by Hailee Steinfeld
So many people struggle with feeling confident in themselves. The moments when we feel secure in ourselves are special and worthy of being honoured. This is the perfect song to belt out when you’re feeling amazing! This song is mainly about feeling confident all on your own without anyone else having to tell you how wonderful you are. It has the added layer of being a song about women taking control of their own sexual pleasure, making it the perfect song for any woman owning her beauty and her sexiness.
These are just 12 songs that can make you feel more confident or badass, but there are so many more! I compiled these 12 songs with more in a playlist on Spotify available here.
